(1) Wallboard jointing, preparation

Although Zen Ocean Plaster has good tensile strength and is not susceptible to cracking, wallboard joints can be weak spots due to movement of the wall as a building ages. To gaurd against cracking, wallboard joints are smoothed with filler, over which fiber tape is applied for reinforcement. This is also done for any corners, whether convex or concave. Plastic corner gaurds can also be added for extra strenght if desired. All baseboards and mouldings are covered with masking tape. A gap of about 2.5 mm is left between the tape and wall so the tape can be removed later. It is also a good idea to cover floors, bookcases etc. with drop sheets.
(2) Mixing

Zen Ocean Plaster comes in powder form in 20 kg bags. Filla large bucket with the recommended amount of water as per the instructions on the bag. Slowly sprinkle in plaster, stirring constantly, to a workable consistency. It is possible to mix it by hand with a stir stick, but we highly recommend using an electric handheld mixer. Electric mixers can be purchased or rented from building supply stores.
(3) Finishing coat

The mixed Zen Ocean Plaster is applied in a single coating to a thickness of between 1.5 and 2.5 millimeters. It is troweled on using a standard plastering trowel which can be purchased at hardware and building supply stores. It goes on smoothly and with little mess. Even a complete novice can achieve a beautiful finish! There are many types of finish possible, from smooth and flat to textured patterns, original artwork designs, even inlaid straw, colored glass, etc.
